Hong Kong Beats UAE to Qualify for Asia Cup 2018


Hong Kong defeated United Arab Emirates to enter for the Asia Cup 2018 which is going to start on September 15, 2018, at UAE.

Along with team India and Pakistan, Hong Kong has been placed in group A and are going to have the first match against the 1992 ICC World Cup winner on September 16. On 18 September Hong Kong will play defending champion India.


Hong Kong has won the match by two wickets(DLS method) beating UAE for Asia Cup 2018 in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.


Inning Affected by Long Rain Break


Hong Kong strict UAE to 176/9 in 24 overs by a first five wickets from Aizaz Khan, the inning was affected by a rain.


Hong Kong Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath, their most well-performed batsmen knew the target with their benefits and the no. of overs they are having. They both had added 64 runs in just six overs to take Hong Kong ahead till he got in 20 balls 38 runs.


Babar Hayat and Kinchit Shah dismissed Nizakat to pavilion at the total score of the team at 68/3, which later on became 84/4 in 10th over than Amzad Raza bowled Rath for 28.


Use at that stage was in front but 33 in 32 balls of Christopher Cater and Eshan Khan 29 in 24 at 53 runs for the fifth wicket. In was a dramatic game and another turn took place when cater got run out. Mohammad Naveed stuck twice in one over help to Hong to score 147/7.


The target still some runs away, but Scott McKechnie and Tanwir Afzal swung it back, It could have gone either way then. Afzal fell off the last ball of the 23rd over for a 12-ball 15, but Hong Kong only needed three runs then, and they crossed the line without much fuss. McKechnie remained unbeaten on 14 from 11 balls.


Earlier the UAE innings was two Part Affair


It was 15.2 overs first and then 8.4 overs, the UAE innings was two parts affair. Because of the rain and wet outfit.


Before the players have to go off the field, the no. 4 batsman Rameez Shahzad’s was sent to the pavilion by Aizaz. Which left UAE on 65/3.


Ashfaq Ahmed at that stage was still there on 43 off 40 balls. And once the play resumed he returned it on. Ashfaq hits Aizaz for a six and four, and Shaiman Anwar Joined the party with six and four in every next over, which was bowled by Eshan.


Roadblock in the 20th over of the innings


Anwar and Ashfaq sent back by Nadeem Ahmed but blitz did not stop, there was a brief roadblock in the 20th over of the innings.


UAE managed to reach a strong score as a result but couldn’t win the match for the Asia CUP 2018.
