As Peru welcomes Bolivia to the Estadio Monumental “U” in Lima on Sunday, the two South American nations will not compete at the 2022 World Cup.

Juan Reynoso was appointed to replace Ricardo Gareca after the loss.

After his debut loss to Mexico in September, the former Cruz Azul boss led Peru to a 4-1 victory against El Salvador, with Gianluca Lapadula, Bryan Reyna and Christian Cueva all scoring.

As a result of an altercation in the closing stages of Peru’s 1-0 win over Paraguay on Thursday, Alex Valera and Alexander Succar were both sent off.

In five of their last six meetings against Bolivia, Reynoso’s side has won, so they will be confident of victory on Sunday.

Having finished ninth out of 10 South American nations in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, Bolivia also changed managers over the summer.

Between January and March, La Verde suffered four consecutive defeats under Cesar Farias, scoring just three goals and conceding 14.

During the September international break, Bolivia lost 2-0 to Senegal courtesy of Sadio Mane and Boulaye Dia goals in Gustavo Costas’ first game in charge.

With a 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in January, Bolivia began 2022 on a high note. Defeating Peru by a similar scoreline seems unlikely.
